Thanks to Daughtry for the honor of working on an advertising project for a performance in Philadelphia May 29th.
A quick sample of a recent photo retouching project. About 20 minutes start to finish for this project in Photoshop.
Great fun working on this advertisement for Bvlgari last month in Miami. Everyone smelled so good...
Several formats of ads for this project. Print and motion-graphics for a television commercial with a short turn around time made the time go way too fast. Thanks to the agency and Bvlgari for the opportunity!
Sad news of Frank Sinatra Jr.'s passing today. After working on a motion commercial project for one of Frank's performances less than a year ago. My condolences to his family. An honor to be associated with him in my little slice of history.
Working on a motion-graphics project for an upcoming
Sheryl Crow show. The screen is a 4k Portrait orientation.
A challenging workflow when working with 3d animation
is the time it takes to render the final animation.
These are cropped renders, there are 10 final output files that are
stitched back together by the 4k display.
Adding lighting, reflections, and cpu-intensive blurs adds
to the render time as well. My render farm needs to be
used to complete this project in a suitable time-frame
as the clients want to see something sooner than later.
A fun project with the talented Sheryl Crow...
1999-2001-ish. Behind the scenes during an interview with General Paul Tibbets for the History Channel show, “Modern Marvels; The Manhattan Project.”
He was the pilot who flew the Enola Gay (named after his mother) which dropped “Little Boy,” the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. August 6, 1945.
The producers asked him if he felt guilty about his role in this historical event.
He told them no, they were going to do it to us…
The General was an interesting character with a sharp tongue! A throwback tough-guy that had a real presence in the room.

I have been so busy working the past several months with little time to update the blog. As you can see above I have been traveling throughout the western U.S. working.
Heading to Las Vegas April 13-17 for NAB, 2015. Excited to attend the show!
After my PlayStation 3 died recently with the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death) I went searching for a new media player that would take up less space than the PS3.
My research led me to Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, several media players that did not have traditional apps by only playing from an external drive, and the Roku 3.
My PS3 was not the "slim" version and weighed in at a hefty 12 pounds. Quite heavy and took quite a bit of shelf space. The new Roku 3 is tiny in comparison weighing just 5 ounces and measuring 3.5 inches square by 1 inch tall. The remote is simplified with just a few buttons and Bluetooth connectivity, which was important to me as I have used RF remotes that needed to be directly in front of the tv/console, lined up perfectly to work correctly.
Interestingly, the remote also has a headphone jack, volume control, and wifi connectivity, allowing the user to plug headphones into the remote and roam about freely listening to Pandora or Spotify without being tethered to the box or TV. The remote also has motion sensitivity and functions as a game controller; very cool for a product that now costs less than $85.
I plugged in the small box via HDMI cable to my television in the living room and was greeted with a Roku animation of the company name. It quickly went to the home screen and asked me to input a code to register the device. I did this online with a computer since I was not connected to my homes wireless connection yet. After registering the device I went to the network settings and connected to my WiFi network quickly and easily. Signal strength and connectivity were strong even through several walls about 40 feet away. The Roku 3 also has an Ethernet port for a wired connection, but WiFi is working well so I hid the console, tucked under a shelf invisible to visitors. The HDMI connection on the Roku 3 will output 720p and 1080p via the HDMI connection.
Browsing the home screen showed a nice blend of included channels that could be moved around, deleted, and additional content/channels added quickly and easily. Testing a few channels like Netflix and Amazon Prime went flawlessly streaming in HD over the wireless network without incident. I tested Pandora, the YouTube channel and several other channels such as PBS and CNN. CNN streams their International channel for free without subscription through the Roku 3. I was also able to view the Bloomberg financial network live stream, and a few other live channels as well such as Fox News, although it was audio only. Impressive nonetheless for a tiny box that did not require any signups or subscription fees.
After searching, testing, and playing with the new device I could not be happier with the purchase. Replacing my aging PS3 at a fraction of the cost and size was well worth the small investment.
One of the channels I have added and use regularly was the PLEX media server. Plex gives me the ability to organize all of my content via their web app. It scanned the directories I pointed to and automatically downloaded metadata such as year, ratings, length, actors, etc, even the movie posters and artwork. All done quickly and automatically in about 60 seconds. My next post will take you through Plex and all it has to offer. For now I am enjoying the new Roku 3 and definitely recommend the product for anyone looking to slim down their media center and bring all content under one umbrella.
Vizio, a leading television manufacturer, has dropped 3D TV technology from its line of products. This leaves Samsung as the #1 maker of 3D TV's. LG electronics and Sony round out the top 3 producers of the technology that produces stereoscopic (3D) imagery.
Ultra HD, 4K technology has surpassed 3D televisions in resolution, offering four times the number of pixels in comparison to traditional HD television sets.
A mid-May search of Amazon and other major electronic retailers show the prices reflect the overall interest in each technology. A 55-inch Samsung 3D TV currently costs $779 as a prime member on Amazon, while an equivalent 55-inch UHD 4K model is $2,200.
One drawback of the 4K resolution is the size of the screen needs to be at least 50 inches, preferably larger, for our eyes to see the difference. While overall sales of 3D television sets have been growing year over year, Vizio dropping the technology completely from its product line is quite a statement to the rest of the manufacturing world.
Children of Internment, a documentary feature film about thousands of families detained by the United States during World War 2, has won Best Documentary Feature at the Santa Fe Film Festival.
I completed approximately 30 shots for the film, mostly compositing and a few scenes with 3d models integrated into various maps used to tell the story of the children that were interned during World War 2.
Congratulations to Joe Crump and his sister Kristina Wagner, executive producers of the film, and thanks for the opportunity to work on such an interesting part of history.

BMD is great for competition in the digital cinema camera market. Although a marginal record for delivery dates in the past, they continue to push the relative cost down for digital filmmakers.
4 Years after Jack Bauer goes underground we find him in unfortunate circumstances near London's East End. Early Nielsen ratings show 8.1 million tuned in for the 2 hour season premiere.
Kiefer Sutherland, Benjamin Bratt, William Devane, Tate Donovan, alongside Jack's trusted friend, "Chloe" played by Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Kim Raver as Audrey Raines. Australian Yvonne Strahovski plays CIA operative Kate Morgan.
The same Jack Bauer intensity fans of the show were used to permeate throughout the premiere in the return of our beloved anti-hero.
Designed as a "limited event," fox will be releasing 12 episodes instead of the original 24.
Welcome back Jack! Live Another Day!
